ARTIST STATMENT

My work explores figurative beauty through representational drawing and painting.
I am drawn to the human figure and to the challenge of transforming recognizable subjects through surrealism.

I am particularly fascinated by the mystique of iconic beauty and the carefully constructed imagery of Golden Age Hollywood. The luminosity, elegance, and ambiguity of these portraits inspire me to consider both the appeal of idealized beauty and what may exist beneath its surface.

I develop my compositions through observation, automatism, collage, and experimentation.
I often juxtapose recognizable figures with animals, patterns, natural forms, and objects, placing them in dreamlike settings. These unusual relationships allow me to move beyond traditional portraiture while remaining grounded in the representational human figure.

Drawing and painting are also a continuing process of study. With each medium, I seek to strengthen my understanding of form, proportion, composition, value, and the expressive possibilities of the figure. Working in graphite allows me to investigate subtle value, detail, and structure, while oil painting expands my exploration of depth, atmosphere, and lifelike luminosity.

My work exists between observation and imagination. Through disciplined representational practice, I seek to develop an increasingly distinctive visual language, one that uses the familiar human figure as a point of departure for exploring the beauty, mystery, and emotional complexity of the imagined world.
